Greater Scholars (GSIS): Tell us about yourself.

Mrs. Adiele (Mrs. A.): My name is Nera Adiele and I am the CEO of House of D’iele – A clothing line specialized in creating exquisite designs for kids and moms. I am also an entrepreneur.

GSIS: What is it like being a mother? and how has being a mother changed you?

Mrs. A: There’s a quote that says “Being a mother isn’t easy, it’s the hardest job in the world that comes with no instructions or manual”. I absolutely agree, but there is nothing as beautiful as being a mother. And the fact that the job does not come with a manual makes it extra special. I am a twin mom of two amazing boys (Manasseh and George and they are in the fourth grade). Being their mom is the most precious gift I have ever received and am grateful to God.

There is no doubt that raising kids is tough. However, I would love to say that it is a bittersweet experience, yet fulfilling. But being a twin mom is tougher and the bittersweet experience is double in this regard. However, the double struggle and the double work is usually entirely replaced by a deep sense of satisfaction that is inexpressible.

For me, I believe that there are no set rules for how to be a mother but there are some guidelines you can follow or use to parent your children. A mother should be able to create an environment that is warm, welcoming, and enables excellent nurturing for children. Being a mother is being selfless, totally committed, prayerful and you must always be available regardless.

Oh, those sleepless nights ….. hmmm!!, the struggles of combating bed-wetting are unforgettable. The nights you are totally clueless when a child needs attention and all you want to do is let out an ear-splitting shrill hoping it will give you comfort are also unforgettable.

Each and every day of being a mother is a new adventure. Every moment of the motherhood journey should be enjoyed, appreciated, and most of all cherished. All the milestones with children may be bittersweet realities but the joy of being a mother is indescribable and is nothing short of pure bliss.

Being a mother changes your priorities, it changes your perception of things and life in general. You begin to see things differently and sometimes through the eyes of your children. All your worries about yourself – your life, your goals, and your future are no longer completely about you. Motherhood is definitely a game-changer. It changed me, but I wouldn’t change a minute of all I have experienced and am still experiencing and I couldn’t be more grateful to God for the opportunity.

GSIS: Tell us about a cherished memory you’ve had with your children.

Mrs. A: We are still creating memories but let me share this. It was on my twins’ 3rd birthday in November 2015. The photographer I hired to take pictures of them at school could not deliver the pictures the same day so I asked him to bring them to school the next day. When I got to school the next day to pick up the boys, the photographer was nowhere in sight.

Fortunately for me or so I thought I ran into him on our way home so I pulled up. As soon as he realized that I was the one in the car he started shouting and that, did not sit well with my boys and they reacted immediately to his action.  “Why are you shouting at her. Don’t do that”. The man was totally stunned. He turned and looked at them and quietly walked away. And there I was not only feeling on top of the world but also feeling loved and protected by my “soldiers”. So beware, I have a Do Not Mess with MyMama squad (laughs).

GSIS: What is one thing that surprised you about being a mom?

Mrs. A: That one thing was the way I was taking pictures like there was a prize to be won. I didn’t believe it was possible to pull that off. I never failed to put up the boys’ pictures on my DP every month and it went on for years.

GSIS: What is the best advice that anyone has given you on motherhood?

Mrs. A: YOU first! Take time for yourself. Find the “me” time and enjoy every bit of it.

GSIS: What have you enjoyed the most about being a part of the Greater Mom community?

Mrs. A: I have been in this community for about six years and it is an honor and a privilege to have been the chairwoman of this great community twice. Greater Mom community is a family-friendly environment created by the people and It’s been a pleasure working with some of the most amazing women in the community. “The proof is in the pudding” So I enjoin you to be a part of this great community. I would also like to mention that the body does not only give back to its immediate community, it has also been able to establish a process where people feel comfortable asking for help, and supported when they do.

GSIS: What do you think makes you a Greater Mom?

Mrs. A: The Greater Mom Attitude: passion, sensitivity, care, friendship, fellowship, the can-do spirit, and ability to inspire fellow women.
